High View Movie Ticket and Seat Reservation App

Busy working adults lack time for long-winded movie booking process and prefer dedicated spaces in the cinema.
UX Designer designing an app for HighView from conception to delivery.

Understanding the user
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to better understand potential user needs. A primary group identified was working adults who go to the movies on a whim and don’t have the time to buy tickets and reserve seats online.
The user group confirmed initial assumptions about movie goers but research revealed that tie was not the only constraint limiting users from reserving seats online. Other constraints include seat location, distractions from others in the movie.
Working adults don’t have spare time to plan going to the movie.
Working adults need an ideal seat location to enjoy their movie.
Working adults don't want their movie to be interrupted by other patrons.
Working adults with visual disability need a zoom feature.

Starting the design
Next, I sketched out paper wireframes for each screen in my app, keeping the user pain points in mind.
Moving from paper to digital wireframes made it easy to understand how the redesign could help address user pain points and improve the user experience.
Usability Study Findings
To start testing the designs, I created a low-fidelity prototype which you can view here. This prototype was used in an unmoderated usability study with 5 participants. Here are the main findings uncovered by the usability study:
Users need better cues for how to select a theatre
Users need a more intuitive way to select seats.
Users need seat reservation options for dedicated spaces.
Refining the design
Users needed better cues for how to select a theatre so made alternative ways to begin the user journey either by using the button or by choosing a movie.
We included a zoom feature to enable users with visual impairments be able to enlarge the screens
We created alternative navigation to begin the user flow either by using the buttons or images.
High Fidelity Prototype
The app makes users feel like HighView put their needs front and centre.
What I learned
I learned the importance of user research and usability studies in improving the user experience.e seats in preferred spaces.
